SMCOE - Technology and Media Services
Search their media catalog online then access the computeriezed media booking system for the County. We keep a hard copy of their Media Catalog in the Abbott Library, as well any Supplements. The newest additions can be viewed online.
SMERC Library
Be sure to visit the library in person as well as visit the web page. You will find a wonderful collection of educationand curriculum resources for all grade levels and subjects. The librarians will do a subject search for you. If you need any copying done, the first 20 are free. Our school's resource delivery and return day is Wednesday. You will receive any requested materials that day, otherwise items can be picked up at their site.

Brought to you by TechCorps. Contains a set of free tutorials to help you learn and understand nearly everything about using the Web and multimedia.
Tutorial: Searching the Net and Integrating the Internet in your Curriculum
This online tutorial was prepared by a library media teacher in Minnesota. It offers a good introduction to building this skill. There is lots to read and absorb, but worth the look.

Research

School Library Media Impact Studies
The Library Research Service is a partnership of the Colorado State Library and the Colorado Department of Education with the Library and Information Services Department at University College of the University of Denver. Keith Curry Lance has been instrumental in demonstrating, through the research, that school libraries have a tremendous impact on student learning, test scores, and reading.
Technology Integration
Links to surveys, bibliographies, literature reviews, research, issues, policy, internet safety, and funding.  The sponsors are McRel, Mid-continent Research fo Education and Learning. They are a nonprofit research group located in Colorado.
Integrating Technology in Your Middle School Classroom: Some Hints from a Successful Process
"Linda Colburn is a research associate at the Center for Reading and Language Arts of the University of Texas at Austin where she evaluates reading academies and, through the Department of Special Education, coordinates a project to integrate technology into middle school language arts classrooms and provide support to teachers in accomplishing this task. She recently completed her Ph.D. at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN, USA, where her research focused on integrating technology into instruction." This is an excellent article summarizing some of her research and linking to other resources on the value of integrating technology in the classroom.
ozline: Theory and Practice on Integrating the Web
This article is lengthy but worth looking at. The author, Tom March, is another guru of web integration in the curriculum. He is passionate and convincing about the potential.
ERIC: Education Resource Information Center: Clearinghouse on Information and Technology
This site, created and maintained by Syracuse University, offers the world's largest searchable database for education.
Computer and Information Literacy
This CSLA page provides links to information technology and information literacy frameworks, as well as research links.
National Educational Technology Standards Project
This project is on ongoing initiative of the International Society for Technology in Education. It is developing standards for teachers and students.
Evaluating the Impact of Technology: The Less Simple Answer
An informative online article by Doug Johnson, an educator from Minnesota, which outlines the impact and evaulation of educational technology.

Web Page Design

Bookmark Managers
This is a Yahoo site which offers links to many "bookmark managers." Once you start accumulating bookmarks, things can quickly get out of hand, unless you understand something about folder organization. Planning ahead is a good idea.
Educational Web Design
"This page was created to provide teachers with tools to help them successfully create dynamic web pages for their students. There are links to sites where you can obtain free graphics, sound files and animated gifs. Other pages focus on helping educators understand about educational web design."  Links to sites containing components like web counters, html tips, tune up sites, etc will also be found here.
Building a School Web Page
A commercial web design site which aims to help the beginner.
Technical Information for Teachers
This site was developed for the city of Oakland. It offers basic HTML information as well as other sites to encourage teacher website creation.
Creating Killer Web Sites
For those that want to jump in head-first, this site has a long list of links to create a website. It doesn't offer any instructions though.
Webmaster Resource Page
Created by a school distrist in Pekin, Illinois, this site offers links for varying levels of expertise as well as other goodies like graphic links.
Web Development Workshop
This very comprehensive site was created by Joyce Valenza, a library media teacher in Illinois. The links include many subject areas, such as clip art resources, list of search engines, meta-search engines, and directories, as well as basic web design information.
Filamentality
PacBell has created this site for rudimentary web design. It is a template which you alter to suit your needs.
Resources for Chico High School: Web Page Development Class
This is a great spot to begin your instruction in web design. These links were screened by Peter Milbury, a high school media teacher who teaches an Internet class at San Jose State University. It's the best of the best.
Webmonkey
This site is for those who are ready to tackle web design using HTML. The creators are on a mission to help anyone who wants to learn via tutorials. They provide lots of tips for beginning. See also their "Webmonkey for Kids" web site.
Homestead - Free Web Page Maker
This is a handy site offering templates (or you can begin with a blank page) for creating web pages. It's fairly easy to use, but can be somewhat unstable. I have some experience using it, so can help get you started.
Clip Art
This is a page from Joyce Valenza, a library media teacher, it has a lengthly list of links for clip art and other graphic images.
A Quick Start using Netscape Composer
This is a fairly easy to use introduction of using Composer to create a web page.
Resources for C.H.S. Web Page Development Class
This is an excellent resource from a class I took in Summer, 2000. Feel free to take advantage of all the resources. There is information for using Netscape Composer, links to graphics, and tips on creating high-quality web pages.

Searching the Net and Integrating the Internet in Your Classroom
Created by Mary Alice Anderson, a library media teacher at a middle school in Minnesota, this page has some useful sources by subject area. It was used for a workshop and last updated in 1998 so some of the links might be broken, nonetheless it offers a wealth of still relevant material.

The Internet Educator's Resource Page from the Chico High School Library
This site is maintained by their library media teacher, Peter Milbury. It is a comprehensive set of links for educational technology resources and learning opportunities.
Berkeley Digital Library SunSITE
This UC Berkeley Library site provides help finding digital resources such oral histories, lesson plans, virtual field trips, digital collections, an image finder, and the Ameican Heritage Project.

WebQuests

"A WebQuest is an inquiry-oriented activity in which most or all of the information used by learners is drawn from the Web. WebQuests are designed to use learners' time well, to focus on using information rather than looking for it, and to support learners' thinking at the levels of analysis, synthesis and evaluation."  The model was developed in early 1995 at San Diego State University by Bernie Dodge with Tom March."
Child Labor in America WebQuest
This is a simple, clean example of a webquest collaboration between a library media teacher and a classroom teacher. It's included because it is well-done and not on Bernie Dodge's main webquest site from San Diego State University.

Cyberbee WebQuests
This will give you another sampling of webquests. The creator of the site is an author and library media teacher in the Ohio schools. She also has an appealing Home Page which is linked to this one.
ThinkQuest
Thinkquests are online competitions for students and teacher collaboration. Take a look. The quality might be uneven, but the concept is stimulating.
LSU Webquests
This site offers webquests for the classroom from Louisiana State Unsiversity, College of Education.

This article from the journal, "Learning and Leading with Technology," provides many more links for understanding and using webquests.

The California Technology Assistance Project has districts throughout the state. The web site, created by Region VII, consolidates resources from various county offices of education, individuals, organizations, and universities on a vaiety of subject areas.
Intercultural E-Mail Classroom Connections
A free service which links teacher and students all over the world to share letter-writing via email.
KIDS: Kids Identifying and Discovering Sites
"The KIDS Report is an annotated library of curriculum-related Internet sites produced by K-12 students as resources for other K-12 students and teachers."
Decisions, Decisions: Tom Snyder Productions
Students work with online materials to debate national issues. Students can share their views with other students or send them to congressional representatives. They also can explore related, prescreened Internet sites.
The Global Schoolhouse
Online collaborative projects, communication tools, and professional development sponsored by Microsoft and the Global Schoolnet Foundation.
American Memory
Library of Congress American Memory Site provides primary source material of United States history in print, audio, and video formats. This Learning Page has links to lessons, ideas, and resources for curriculum content for many subject areas.
Matrix of Webquests
This is the lesson plan site for webquests developed by the originator, Bernie Dodge. You can select by grade level and attributes.
PBS Teacher Source
Offers over 1,000 lesson plans searchable by grade level, subject, or keyword.
The Gateway to Educational Materials
Developed by the U. S. Department of Education, this site is a special project of the ERIC Clearinghouse on Information and Technology. It offers one-stop access to high quality lesson plans, curriculum units and other education resources on the Internet.
Youthline: Lesson Stop
"Within the 7 subject area pages, you'll find about 500 links to web sites organized by topic and grade, which provide access to thousands of lessonplans."  This is a commercial site, but the links are extensive and very useful.
Smithsonian Classroom Ready Lessons and Activities
You'll find topics "ranging from presidential elections to ocean ecology to landscape painting" in lesson plans designed for upper elementary and middle school students. They provide photographs and reproductions, guidelines for working with them, and links to other online sites.<
Mid-continent Research for Education and Learning
Award-winning non-profit organization provides lesson links by subject area.
Los Angeles County Office of Education: Teams Distance Learning
Over 100 sites provide links to lesson plans arranged by subject area.
OFCN's Curriculum Exchange
The Organization for Community Networks based in Ohio is a repository for curricular exchange developed by a consortium of teachers. The site is organized by subject and grade level.
Marc Sheehan's Lesson Plan Page

AskERIC Lesson Plan Collection
"The AskERIC Lesson Plan Collection contains more than 1100 unique lesson plans which have been written and submitted to AskERIC by teachers from all over the United States."
Blue Web'n
High quality Pac Bell sponsored online lesson plan site. Browse the content table, search by subject area or grade level. An easy to use, excelllent source for ideas. I subscribe to their email and receive weekly updates on the best sites of the week.  Definitely a five star site.
S.C.O.R.E.
The Schools of California Online Resources for Education websites has lesson plans arranged by content area, grade level, and subject. All have been pre-screened and relate to CA standards and frameworks. This is a California Technology Assistance Project.
Classroom Connect Lesson Plans
Lots of lesson plans by subject and grade level. Also includes a list of lesson plan links.
DiscoverySchool.com: Lesson Plans Library
These lesson plans are developed with the assistance of educators. Because it is the "Discovery Channel" site, video and audio are often used. Lots of great online curriculum links even if you don't use the lesson plans.
Collaborative Lesson Archive
Sponsored by the University of Illinois, this site " is intended to be a forum for the creation, distribution, and archival of education curricula for all grade levels and subject areas." Search by subject, grade level, or keyword. A useful feature is the ability to read email comments from teachers that have used the lesson plans.
National Council for Economic Education
This organization provides lesson plans organized by standard, concept, title, or grade. Lot so interesting ideas.

They offer a wealth of progrms to K-12 schools through their Open Gateways Program.
CTAP: Region 4
This is the California Technology Assistance Project Region which includes San Mateo County. CTAP is a California Department of Education project. They offer grants, professional development, technical assistance, and learning resources.
CTAP: Region 5
California Technical Assistance Project Region 5 covers Monterey, San Benito, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz Counties. Even though it's not our district some of their resources are still available to us.
SMARTer Kids Grant
Developed by the SMARTer Kids Foundation, this group offers grants which subsidize 25-30% off technology resources.
ICUE: Informal Computer Using Educator of Silicon Valley
ICUE Silicon Valley includes San Mateo and Santa Clara County. They are one of the 21 affiliates of CUE in California. ICUE offers ed tech information and classes for furthering technology in schools.

The Foundation Center
A huge site which has consolidated much information on foundations and funding. They even have an online librarian.
SchoolGrants
This is a "one-stop site for K-12 grant opportunities,' with links to federal and general funding sources. This site was created by the grant director of the Dallas Independent School District.
JES & Co.
This is a non-profit organization that offers funding to link technology with students, schools, parents and communities. They emphasize corporate parnerships and student training.
Intel: Santa Clara, Grant Information
Intel has a strong, active foundation which offers grants in this area. They have launched a major corporate education program as of early 2000.
